The Great Depression a Review & Giveaway!




We recently completed this notebook study of America's Great Depression. We followed the planning guide that's included in the unit, completing it in ten days.

I used this for a 10 day mini-study on the great depression for three of my children (ages 11-14). It was super easy to use and get started on (love that:)! First I printed it out in booklet form and divided the reading portions into 10 days.

I just printed out one of these and had the kids highlight the important information.


Each child had their own response booklet to the reading. This way I could check their reading comprehension and answer any questions that came up. Everyday they did their reading for that day and filled in the appropriate section of responses in their booklet.

The information was presented in short chunks that made it easily understandable  The visual pictures also made the reading very interesting.



In addition to writing responses they also added new words to their vocabulary section on the front page of their interactive notebook ( or booklet).



Each section was nicely broken up so that the kids didn't feel like they were just answering questions.  It was broken up in such a way to make it digestible for young learners.



Each day was appropriately connected to each reading section. The kids were able to independently work through their reading portion and response section without much help from me.



The children also added to the timeline section daily. I liked that this was included. Using a timeline of events helped them to understand the sequence of events during the great depression.



As you can see each page has a very nice layout that is visually appealing!



These Note Packs are a great way of notebooking your way through The great Depression. I think this would make a wonderful addition to any classroom. This pack makes learning history fun and interesting for the students AND the teacher!

We ended our unit study of America's Great Depression with this fun movie:)





Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken is a 1991 film that takes place during the great depression. It is the life story of  Sonora Webster Carver, who was known as a diving horse rider. 

It added a little more history to our knowledge of The Great Depression and gave the kids a visual setting to put all of their information into.

Jewish Calendar FREEBIE...

I thought I was all done with my calendar...but then I looked at our school closet and decided it needed to be reorganized again!  Whew, that took all day...but now I know what´s in there! Ha ha:)  I also put a lock on it because the kiddos kept getting in it and somehow all my hard work was undone in less then the time it took to organize it!

While I was in there organizing yesterday I decided my 4 year old needed to try Activity Boxes so off I went to make some numbers (I added them to my calendar - you can use them for both Activity Boxes and Calendar numbers:)  I also added Jewish holiday labels...ok - now I think I´m done - my husband sighed for me:) lol

I decided I would give these for FREE to YOU:)

Learning Spanish

You may be asking like many people do, "How´s your Spanish", living in Central America and all...

Well good but it could be better would be my reply!

 You may not believe this but we have met people from other countries that have lived here in central america for 20+years and don´t know more than 20 words in Spanish!

 

 Unbelievable I know!

Well we decided a while ago that we wanted to learn the language of the people we live with and be able to communicate with them:) 

 So how do we do it you may be asking?

Well

1. We try everyday to increase our vocabulary by at least one word...looking it up in a dictionary helps!

2. We use study helps to keep progressing...Spanish books teaching verb tenses, conjugation, etc.

3. Everyday we try to communicate with a native speaker and learn one new word, phrase, idiom, or slang:)

4. We use an online learning program - Rosetta Stone

As if that isn´t enough! 

  sometimes you need to write things down & think about it & quiz yourself to make sure your learning it right...so that´s why I made these for us...

We NEED a fun way  to write  out our verb conjugations and vocabulary!

Two Spanish Conjugation Flapbooks/Lapbooks for Interactive Notebooks

These were made as a supplement to the Rosetta Stone Foreign language programs that we use.  This is a fun way to conjugate their new verbs helping them to compare & contrast different kinds of verbs:ar, er, and ir verbs. It is also a great way to compare and contrast the different tenses.

Aleph Bet Hebrew Cards, Chart, & Notebook

Using our new learning cards, alphabet chart, and notebooks we began learning Hebrew in a whole new way!

 This is for Ages 4-adult!!

Hebrew is fun to learn and I know you will enjoy it!  Whether you want to understand the ancient Hebrew Bible better, or just learn more about the Ancient Hebraic Civilizations this is where you should start!

Each Ancient Hebrew Letter has a pictorial meaning, numerical meaning,  as well as a phonetic meaning.  Understanding the Ancient "Aleph -Bet" will help you understand the ancient Hebraic mindset in a whole new way!  I would also suggest using  my Aleph Unit study where you will learn about Hebraic word pictures, ancient Hebraic acrostic poems, and more!  You will come away from this in awe of the depth of each individual letter and word!

After we sang our aleph bet song the littler ones started stenciling while the older ones picked
different color post-its & copied the ancient paleo Hebrew, modern Hebrew, and cursive Hebrew for the first 9 letters of the Hebrew alphabet & then drew each one´s representative picture...

Then we put them in our Hebrew notebook....opening from the right side of course!

We colored some more and practice writing each letter...

Hebrew is a beautiful language and it is not just a Jewish thing!  You will be amazed at how much you can learn about ancient history just from learning the ancient letters!  We love it and I know you will too!

Science in Boquete Panama in Volcanic Soil!

We´ve been doing lots of planting lately using our backyard volacanic soil...

and then some experiments too...

we learned plants don´t grow to well in vinegar or salt water:)

and that they can sprout in the dark but they need light after that for photosynthesis

we journaled and drew how our radishes sprouted...

but that wasn´t enough now everyone has a green thumb they are planting everything they can get a hold of!!!    carrots, beans, in windows, buckets....

the fun of gardening!

this is the curriculum we just used that sparked the love of gardening!
