Biblical Hebrew

We study Biblical Hebrew here at Thetravelingclassroom.  We want to understand the culture and people who wrote the Bible.  By understanding the mindset of the ancient Hebrews, we can better understand the context of the Bible and correctly interpret its contents. Here is an great introductory video that will help you understand more of the importance of studying ancient paleo Hebrew:

Not only do I enjoy studying Biblical Hebrew on my own but I also love to teach it to my children:)

Below you will find materials that I have created to help my children learn and understand Biblical Hebrew.

Click on any of the pictures below to learn more about each item.  Each item I have listed in my store where you can easily access and download them.   Some are paid items, while others I offer for  free as a blessing to you.  I will be periodically updating this page so be sure to follow along so you can receive updates of newly created items and flash freebies:)

This unit is packed with hands on activities.  We worked on it for a little over a month.  One of the activities is a puppet poem activity.  It includes poetry as well as teaching the ancient Hebrew meaning for the words mother and father.  It is a funny poem that really catches the kids attention.  These are the puppets we made for dramatic play to go along with our rhyming poem

We also studied acrostic poetry and discussed it's use in the Bible.  This was a very common type of poetry that is found in the ancient Biblical text.  The kids then had a chance to make their own acrostic poetry based on the what they learned on the Hebrew root words for mother and father.  Here is an example for mother.  It's so sweet...:)

This is an example of  the acrostic poem for father.

This is another activity that is included in the unit.  It is the "Evolution of the ABC's"  flapbook.

This is a little project that goes along with the next unit for Beit.  The second Hebrew letter in the Hebrew alphabet is beit.  This letter also means house.  Below are some examples of the kids constructions of ancient houses.  This unit will be released soon!

We are not exactly sure how all the ancients lived but this definitely could have been one style of home:)

Equally Yoked Bible Study For Kids A Foldable Interactive Notebook

Equally Yoked Bible Study For Kids A Foldable Interactive

This is a really fun Bible Study for kids.  First the kids filled in the blanks on each worksheet, then they stapled them together into an accordion fold.  We then added them to our Hebrew notebook.    This is an awesome way to learn and understand the Biblical Concept of a "Yoke". This activity engages the learner to think about the meaning of "being yoked" through different Bible Verses and apply it to their life.

We used it as an accordion fold for our Hebrew Notebooks but it could be used for many other things as well. You could use it for a lap book, notebook, wall posters - just to name a few!

The girls made some cute frames from the paper scraps...

Ancient Hebrew Memory Game
This is the flash card memory game.  It is very similar to the standard memory game but with ancient Hebrew letters and their pictograph meanings.  So simple, even a preschooler can understand:)

k-1st Equally Yoked Measurement Data Weight Scale Math Centers

k-1st Equally Yoked Measurement Data Weight Scale Math

This is a fun way to learn how to use a scale! My kids loved it and I´m sure yours will too!

You can either build the scale yourself for the kids to use or let them help you and build one for themselves to take home- it´s super easy and takes less then 15 min!

Then just print out the colorful paper weights, laminate if you want with the mats and your all ready to go.

It was really fun for the 2 youngest to pull out the measuring tape and ruler and go to town measuring things & drawing lines.

They felt so big like they were doing some really complicated math stuff:)

We also had fun using our homemade scale...a lot of things got weighed and measured in our house!

This is the Ancient Hebrew Aleph Bet (alphabet) all on one page.

We use the above resources to practice reading and writing in Hebrew.  We learn ancient Paleo Hebrew, Modern Hebrew, and cursive Hebrew.  I have them say the letter each time they write it and draw a picture so that they also understand it's pictograph meaning.

We´ve really enjoyed making things to go along with our curriculum, one fun project was making the Ancient Land of the Hebrews hidden letters & word pictures Drawing.  You can download it on the freebies page!

Another favorite part has been our word pictures...I can´t help but look at Hebrew words now and analyze them and try to figure out their word pictures ...who thought Ancient Hebrew would be so fun!
If you are not familiar with Hebrew word pictures or pictographs you can learn more about it  here.

I have also made Hebrew Word Picture Cards or Pictographs  for each of the Feasts in the Bible.  I am also working on kid crafts and activities for each feast.

  4. I know a little hebrew, too, and I have a TPT store. TPT has been a wonderful income supplement for me. Plus it's cool to know a lot of people are using my materials.
